What is VIG?

Vacuum Insulating Glass (VIG) is the highest performing glazing choice available today.  Standard double pane IG is R-3 to R-4 triple pane up to R-7 center of glass.  VIG is from R-10 to R-17.

It consists of an evacuated cavity between two layers of glass to significantly reduce heat transfer and improve building energy efficiency. The edge seal creates a non-porous barrier locking out air to reduce heat transfer through conduction, convection and radiation - common in standard IG.  This, results in improved thermal insulation, comfort and lower energy costs.

Key features of VIG include:

  •        Improved thermal insulation: VIG has a U-value (a measure of thermal conductivity) that is significantly lower than traditional insulating glass, making it more effective at reducing heat loss and heat gain. This also improves interior comfort.
  •        Sound insulation: VIG can also improve sound insulation, making it ideal for use in buildings that are located in noisy locations.
  •        Durability: VIG is highly durable and can withstand extreme environmental fluctuations without degrading over time.
  •        Low maintenance: VIG requires no extra maintenance and will not need to be replaced as frequently as traditional insulating glass - which fails over time.
